I wasn\u2019t super familiar with the P-35 pistol, so I didn\u2019t have much in the way of preconceived notions. I was honestly surprised that the original design didn\u2019t take off as much as the 1911 in the earlier years. I think there is a huge market for the <span class=\"nowrap\">SA-35<\/span>, and it has certainly proven to be popular. But the tinkerer in me just had to \u201ctweak\u201d it a bit. Frankly, I wanted to see how awesome this pistol could be. But, is the <span class=\"nowrap\">SA-35<\/span> (and the P-35 design, by extension), \u201cright\u201d the way it comes? Should you not change it? Should you modernize the <span class=\"nowrap\">SA-35<\/span>?<\/p>\n<h2>My Journey<\/h2>\n<p>Over the last year I have seen some incredible pistols come from the fine folks over at Mk3 Firearms, especially some beautiful P-35s. I contacted them to see if they were interested in putting their spin on the <span class=\"nowrap\">SA-35<\/span>. They were all on board, and very excited about the resurgence of the pistol. The author took it to an entirely new level with the custom work from Mk3\u00a0Firearms.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Before sending it off to them, I first sent the pistol to my buddy over at 2A Tactical AZ who is a master of laser engraving. I wanted the pistol to reflect where it came from and its namesake from Springfield Armory. I had him laser the crossed cannons and the <span class=\"nowrap\">SA-35<\/span> logo on the right side of the slide. I also had him do some lasering on the front and backstrap for a unique design. I then sent the pistol off to Mk3 Firearms. A reliable, accurate firearm is far more interesting. The author\u2019s <span class=\"nowrap\">SA-35<\/span> is all of the\u00a0above.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A couple months later I got a shipment notification that my pistol was on its way back to my FFL. Like a kid at Christmas, I couldn\u2019t wait for the day. When I arrived at my FFL, I felt like I was opening up the Holy Grail and expected brilliant golden light to bathe my face as I stared into the glorious luminance. Frankly, my reaction was not far off. What an absolutely beautiful piece of artwork! At first glance, you can tell all the hard work and passion that went into everything on this pistol. Internally, a single-action trigger job made the pull absolutely\u00a0sweet.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Hands-On<\/h2>\n<p>On the range the pistol was familiar, but everything about shooting it was made smoother, easier and even more enjoyable. The flat-faced trigger is out of this world. I remember being impressed by the way the stock <span class=\"nowrap\">SA-35<\/span> shot, but this upgrade by Mk3 is a whole new level of awesome. I may try a few different versions of the <a class=\"ajax-article\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thearmorylife.com\/lok-grips-and-the-sa-35\/\">LOK grips<\/a> to see which are my favorite, but I am really digging the bogie pattern.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>There are some that would say John Moses Browning\u2019s last design, the P-35, was just perfect as-is. As the most widely used pistol around the world and a proven performer, there is an argument to be made that it might not need any modifications. But, while the <a class=\"ajax-article\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thearmorylife.com\/sa-35-review-dissecting-springfields-new-pistol\/\">Springfield Armory <span class=\"nowrap\">SA-35<\/span><\/a> stays true to the roots of the original design, it does add its own little custom tweaks.
