{"id":3882,"date":"2025-09-02T02:31:34","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T02:31:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gunowner-news.com\/?p=3882"},"modified":"2025-09-02T02:31:34","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T02:31:34","slug":"trump-wants-to-banish-kilmar-abrego-garcia-to-uganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunowner-news.com\/?p=3882","title":{"rendered":"Trump Wants to Banish Kilmar Abrego Garcia to Uganda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"has-underline\">The Trump administration<\/span> announced Monday it was processing Kilmar Abrego Garcia for expulsion to Uganda, threatening to banish him to the United States\u2019 growing network of deportee dumping grounds for the second time.<\/p>\n<p>Abrego Garcia, a native of El Salvador, was erroneously deported to his home country in March and held in the notorious\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2025\/04\/22\/trump-latin-america-bukele-el-salvador-prison\/\">Terrorism Confinement Center<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2025\/05\/09\/trump-bukele-kilmar-abrego-garcia-el-salvador-cecot-prison\/\">CECOT<\/a>, becoming the face of President Donald Trump\u2019s aggressive deportation regime. After the Trump administration spent months claiming falsely that Abrego Garcia could not be recovered from El Salvador\u2019s custody, he was returned to the U.S. in June and jailed on federal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/kilmar-abrego-garcia-was-mistakenly-deported-el-salvador-will-face-fed-rcna211514\">human smuggling<\/a> charges. A judge ruled that he should be released from detention ahead of a trial set for January.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Abrego Garcia was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/08\/22\/nx-s1-5511177\/kilmar-abrego-garcia-released-from-federal-custody-pending-criminal-trial\">freed<\/a> from pretrial detention last Friday. His attorneys were sent a court-required notice of his potential\u00a0deportation to Uganda on Saturday. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sec_noem\/status\/1959957649673396259?s=46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0in a post on X Monday morning that ICE had arrested Abrego Garcia, and\u00a0DHS said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2025\/08\/25\/secretary-noem-announces-ice-arrest-kilmar-abrego-garcia-ms-13-gang-member-human\">statement<\/a>\u00a0that he was \u201cbeing processed for removal to Uganda.\u201d On Monday, a federal judge temporarily blocked Abrego Garcia\u2019s removal from the United States.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BLOCK(cta)[0](%7B%22componentName%22%3A%22CTA%22%2C%22entityType%22%3A%22SHORTCODE%22%2C%22optional%22%3Atrue%7D)(%7B%7D) --><\/p>\n<p><!-- END-BLOCK(cta)[0] --><\/p>\n<p>DHS did not reply to The Intercept\u2019s request for additional information prior to publication.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNumerous agencies of the U.S. government have been tasked with trying to get rid of Mr. Abrego and to cover up the administration\u2019s mistake in sending him to El Salvador,\u201d said Yael Schacher, the director for the Americas and Europe at Refugees International. \u201cIn its punitive approach to deportation, the administration undercuts the whole premise of civil immigration law; in its transactional dealings with third countries, it undermines human rights and the protection of refugees worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The United States\u00a0is pursuing deals with around a third of the world\u2019s nations to expel immigrants to places where they do not hold citizenship. Once exiled, these third-country nationals are sometimes detained, imprisoned, or in danger of being sent back to their countries of origin \u2014 which they may have fled to escape violence, torture, or political persecution.<\/p>\n<p>The nations that the Trump administration is collaborating with to accept these expelled immigrants are some of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2025\/07\/29\/trump-deport-immigrants-third-country-human-rights\/\">worst human rights offenders<\/a>\u00a0on the planet.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has expelled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/ng-interactive\/2025\/jul\/23\/trump-ice-data-deportations-detention\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than 8,100<\/a>\u00a0people in this manner since January 20, and the U.S. has made arrangements to send people to at least 14 nations, so far, across the globe. In total, the Trump administration has solicited 64 nations to participate. Fifty-eight of them \u2014 roughly 91 percent \u2014 were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2025\/07\/29\/trump-deport-immigrants-third-country-human-rights\/\">rebuked<\/a> for human rights violations in the State Department\u2019s past human rights reports.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has sought, or struck deals with, or deported third-country nationals to Angola, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Canada, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Dominica, Egypt, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Georgia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Honduras, Ivory Coast, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Libya, Kosovo, Malawi, Mauritania, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Palau, Panama, Peru, Rwanda, S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, The Gambia, Togo, Tonga, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Zambia, and Zimbabwe; these 58 were previously taken to task by the State Department for significant human rights abuses.\u00a0Tuvalu and Santa Lucia were also cited in the report for having repressive laws on paper but were not found to enforce them in practice. Only four of the 64 total nations solicited by the Trump administration\u2014 Antigua and Barbuda, Cabo Verde, Costa Rica, and Saint Kitts and Nevis \u2014 received a clean bill of human rights health from the State Department in the past.<\/p>\n<p>To justify Abrego Garcia\u2019s second attempted expulsion, the Department of Homeland Security claims he is a member of MS-13, a gang that\u2019s known for its prominence in El Salvador but originated in Los Angeles. His family denies the government\u2019s allegations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump is not going to allow this illegal alien, who is an MS-13 gang member, human trafficker, serial domestic abuser, and child predator to terrorize American citizens any longer,\u201d\u00a0Noem <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sec_noem\/status\/1959957649673396259?s=46\">said<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., condemned the administration\u2019s move in a comment to The Intercept.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of offering safety, this administration is tearing families apart and sending people to countries they have no ties to. There is nothing just about this process. It is ICE using its power to punish and cover up its mistakes,\u201d Omar said. \u201cWhat we are witnessing is the government being weaponized against vulnerable people, and it is disgraceful. We need an immigration system that treats people with dignity, not one that destroys lives for political gain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House did not reply to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update: August 25, 2025, 6:17 pm ET<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>This story has been updated with a development in Abrego Garcia\u2019s case and comments from Yael Schacher of Refugees International and Rep.
