Less than a month later, the episode has now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peacocktv.com\/watch-online\/tv\/dateline-nbc\/9060582955933764112\">disappeared<\/a> both from NBC\u2019s website as well as from Peacock, NBC\u2019s streaming service. The removal comes as NBC and Peacock face a defamation lawsuit from Combs over a separate news documentary.<\/p>\n<p>The Dateline episode, titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250517030458mp_\/https:\/www.peacocktv.com\/watch-online\/tv\/dateline\/9060582955933764112\/seasons\/33\/episodes\/sean-combs-on-trial-episode-29\/4fcecb6b-bad5-30c5-b74a-a405cf93794a\">Sean Combs on Trial<\/a>,\u201d has been entirely wiped from the networks\u2019 official streaming platforms, with only promotional materials remaining scattered online, such as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qIqgAlBZro4\">trailer<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/dateline\/in-the-news\/dateline-full-episode-sean-combs-on-trial-rcna206525\">publicity piece<\/a>, and official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/datelinenbc\/posts\/if-you-missed-josh-mankiewiczs-all-new-dateline-about-the-lead-up-to-the-2025-tr\/1225454078934999\/\">social media posts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The episode\u2019s logline described it as a \u201creport on Sean \u2018Diddy\u2019 Combs\u2019 life.\u201d The show summarizes Combs\u2019s rise to fame and his litany of past legal troubles, culminating with the present trial over charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Combs has pleaded not guilty to the charges and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/sean-diddy-combs-confirms-rejected-plea-deal-ahead-sex-trafficking-tri-rcna204079\">rejected a plea deal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An NBC spokesperson told The Intercept that once the trial began on May 12, the \u201cDateline\u201d episode that aired the previous day had become outdated. NBC would not elaborate on which specific portions of the episode had become outdated and warranted the episode being taken down, since the bulk of the program is not about the current trial. Only the first three and last seven minutes of the 41-minute episode focus on Combs\u2019s present indictment.<\/p>\n<p>NBC also declined to comment on whether or how often Dateline episodes removes episodes because they have become outdated, and what criteria is used before scrubbing a show from NBC\u2019s platforms.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BLOCK(cta)[0](%7B%22componentName%22%3A%22CTA%22%2C%22entityType%22%3A%22SHORTCODE%22%2C%22optional%22%3Atrue%7D)(%7B%7D) --><\/p>\n<p><!-- END-BLOCK(cta)[0] --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDateline\u201d episodes that air before trials don\u2019t always appear to be removed from the program\u2019s official streaming portals.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, the fourth episode of the show\u2019s current 33rd season, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peacocktv.com\/watch-online\/tv\/dateline\/9060582955933764112\/seasons\/33\/episodes\/the-night-of-the-noreaster-episode-4\/6a964c9f-3a9a-3756-802b-dbe7afba8b64\">The Night of the Nor\u2019easter<\/a>,\u201d focuses on Karen Read, who stands accused of killing her boyfriend. The episode originally premiered on October 18, 2024 \u2014 some three months after Read\u2019s initial trial was declared a mistrial; a retrial began in April 2025. Although Read\u2019s second trial is presently ongoing, the original \u201cDateline\u201d episode remains online despite presenting now outdated information. For instance, the episode mentions that Read\u2019s lawyers are appealing a judge\u2019s decision to reject their attempt to dismiss several of the charges. The appeal was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/boston\/news\/karen-read-trial-timeline-john-okeefe\/\">denied<\/a> in February 2025, four months after the \u201cDateline\u201d episode aired.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cDateline\u201d episode that aired two days before the Combs episode, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peacocktv.com\/watch-online\/tv\/dateline\/9060582955933764112\/seasons\/33\/episodes\/the-terrible-night-on-king-road-episode-28\/9706ef07-261b-3d29-a8d0-bf26e8c32656\">The Terrible Night on King Road<\/a>,\u201d also discusses an upcoming trial. Bryan Kohberger, who is accused of the killings of four University of Idaho students, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/idaho-college-student-killings-summary-timeline-rcna63818\">scheduled<\/a> to stand trial in August. The episode remains online on Peacock, although there have been new developments since the episode aired. The case judge issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/idahonews.com\/news\/local\/judge-rules-after-dateline-leak-in-kohberger-case-demands-source-probe\">document hold order<\/a>, as the episode contained nonpublic information about the case that the judge believes someone either in law enforcement or on the prosecution team provided Dateline with. NBC would not comment on the record about whether the removal of the Dateline episode was related to the defamation lawsuit. Combs\u2019s lawyers did not respond to a request for a comment. Dateline continues to host a daily <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/dateline-true-crime-weekly\/id1745566056\">podcast<\/a> about the trial. NBC has also joined a number of other media outlets in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/69167625\/327\/united-states-v-combs\/\">asking the court<\/a> to allow cameras inside the courtroom.<\/p>\n<p>The Combs defamation suit against NBC comes amid a sweep of prominent public figures filing cases against the media. Kash Patel, who was selected by Trump to be the reigning FBI director, previously sued CNN for defamation for claiming that he spread conspiracy theories about then-President Joe Biden. That defamation suit was <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bloomberglaw.com\/litigation\/patel-cnn-defamation-lawsuit-fails-to-advance-after-appeal\">dismissed<\/a>, though Patel is now filing a new defamation suit, this time <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/media\/5346302-fbi-kash-patel-msnbc-morning-joe-nbc\/\">against MSNBC<\/a> over reporting on the amount of time he allegedly spent at nightclubs.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has recently <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/politics\/news\/trump-honored-sue-60-minutes-cbs-urges-fcc-maximum-fines-1236368760\/\">announced<\/a> that he is suing CBS for defamation, though the threatened lawsuit doesn\u2019t appear to have come to fruition as of yet. Parent company Paramount has also reportedly offered $15 million to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/media\/paramount-has-offered-15-million-to-settle-cbs-lawsuit-trump-wants-more-861d857e\">settle<\/a> another suit by Trump against CBS for allegedly deceptive editing practices.<\/p>\n<p>In court on Tuesday, meanwhile, one of Combs\u2019s exes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/celebrities\/2025\/06\/10\/diddy-trial-dateline-jane\/84131612007\/\">testified<\/a> that \u201cDateline\u201d is Combs\u2019s favorite TV show.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2025\/06\/15\/sean-combs-diddy-trial-dateline-nbc-removed-lawsuit\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On May 11, NBC premiered a \u201cDateline\u201d episode describing Combs\u2019s various past legal entanglements.
