{"id":3465,"date":"2025-05-05T08:50:06","date_gmt":"2025-05-05T08:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gunowner-news.com\/?p=3465"},"modified":"2025-05-05T08:50:06","modified_gmt":"2025-05-05T08:50:06","slug":"the-trump-administration-is-hiding-american-casualties-of-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunowner-news.com\/?p=3465","title":{"rendered":"The Trump Administration Is Hiding American Casualties of War"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"has-underline\">The Trump administration<\/span> is fighting an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/News-Stories\/Article\/Article\/4122357\/hegseth-says-campaign-against-houthis-will-be-unrelenting-until-hostilities-cea\/\">undeclared war in Yemen<\/a>, and it has not been shy about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2025\/03\/trump-administration-accidentally-texted-me-its-war-plans\/682151\/\">publicizing the details of its attacks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the administration is unwilling to level with the American people about the costs of war. U.S. Central Command, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the White House are keeping the number of U.S. casualties from this ongoing conflict secret. This amounts to a cover-up. Members of Congress are calling for accountability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe administration should be transparent about the number of U.S. casualties from the attacks on the Houthis,\u201d Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., told The Intercept. \u201cI am also working to hold the administration accountable for its unauthorized strikes in Yemen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2024\/09\/05\/yemen-war-houthis-oil-tankers\/\">two decades <\/a>of intermittent war in Yemen, the U.S. officially launched Operation Rough Rider in March of this year, and has carried out strikes on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Releases\/Release\/Article\/4169267\/statement-by-assistant-to-the-secretary-of-defense-for-public-affairs-and-senio\/\">more than 1,000 targets<\/a> in Yemen.<\/p>\n<p>Since taking office, President Donald Trump has also ramped up conflicts in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centcom.mil\/MEDIA\/PRESS-RELEASES\/Press-Release-View\/Article\/4121311\/centcom-forces-kill-isis-chief-of-global-operations-who-also-served-as-isis-2\/\">Iraq<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2025\/02\/04\/trump-airstrike-somalia\/\">Somalia<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centcom.mil\/MEDIA\/PRESS-RELEASES\/Press-Release-View\/Article\/4074572\/centcom-forces-kill-an-al-qaeda-affiliate-hurras-al-din-leader-in-northwest-syr\/\">Syria<\/a>, after running as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/podcast\/archive\/ttom-110324-duss\/\">anti-war candidate<\/a> and pitching himself as a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/responsiblestatecraft.org\/trump-inauguration-speech-war\/\">peacemaker<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- BLOCK(cta)[0](%7B%22componentName%22%3A%22CTA%22%2C%22entityType%22%3A%22SHORTCODE%22%2C%22optional%22%3Atrue%7D)(%7B%7D) --><\/p>\n<p><!-- END-BLOCK(cta)[0] --><\/p>\n<p>The strikes\u00a0in Yemen are targeting the Iran-backed Houthi government, which began launching\u00a0attacks\u00a0on <a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2024\/01\/19\/houthis-yemen-biden-airstrikes\/\">vessels<\/a> \u2014 including U.S. Navy warships \u2014 in November 2023 over\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2024\/01\/24\/intercepted-podcast-yemen-biden-war\/\">war\u00a0in Gaza<\/a>. Recent U.S. attacks in response have <a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2025\/03\/26\/signal-chat-yemen-strike\/\">targeted civilian infrastructure<\/a> and, according to local reports, <a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2025\/04\/15\/pete-hegseth-pentagon-civilian-casualties-harm\/\">killed scores of innocent people<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. troops are also in harm\u2019s way. Earlier this week, a fighter jet fell off the side of the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea, the Navy said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/Press-Office\/Press-Releases\/display-pressreleases\/Article\/4167948\/harry-s-truman-carrier-strike-group-fa-18-super-hornet-lost-at-sea\/\">statement<\/a> on Monday. The Truman reportedly made a sharp turn to evade a Houthi attack, which caused the U.S. Navy F\/A-18 Super Hornet fighter to plunge overboard.\u00a0One sailor was injured in the chaos, and the $60 million plane was lost to the deep.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a tragic accident, and let\u2019s be clear \u2014 neither this service member, nor any of the other service members in Yemen, should have ever been in harm\u2019s way,\u201d Rep. The Pentagon offered even more granular data, providing individual synopses of more than 150 attacks, including information on deaths and injuries not only to U.S. troops but even civilian contractors working on U.S. bases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithholding basic information from the public makes it harder for the media to shine light on how these officials are violating one of Trump\u2019s most broadly popular campaign promises,\u201d Erik Sperling of Just Foreign Policy, an advocacy group critical of mainstream Washington foreign policy, told The Intercept. \u201cThese operatives apparently hope that by waging a war from the air without constitutionally required authorization from Congress, they can keep the public in the dark about the devastating impact of their war.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon acknowledges the danger to U.S. forces posed by Houthi attacks. \u201cThey threaten our personnel overseas,\u201d chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/News-Stories\/Article\/article\/4122757\/us-punches-back-at-iran-backed-houthi-terrorists-in-yemen\/\">said in March<\/a>, noting that the Houthis were \u201cfiring at U.S. military personnel in the region and shooting at our ships \u2026 putting American lives at risk.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Defense Department not only failed to provide a count of those for whom those risks were realized, but also seemed to suggest that they are not even aware of how many personnel may have been killed or wounded by the Houthis.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if the Pentagon even knew that number, a nameless spokesperson intimated that the information was only known to CENTCOM. \u201cThat information is tracked at the combatant command level,\u201d the official replied by email.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2025\/05\/02\/trump-yemen-war-us-casualties-death-toll\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Trump administration is fighting an undeclared war in Yemen, and it has not been shy about publicizing the details of its attacks.
