Kennedy Jr., the nation\u2019s health secretary, on Saturday instructed leaders of the nonprofit he founded to take down a web page that mimicked the design of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s site but laid out a case that vaccines cause autism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The page had been published on a site apparently registered to the nonprofit, the anti-vaccine group Children\u2019s Health Defense. Mr. Kennedy\u2019s action came after The New York Times inquired about the page and after news of it ricocheted across social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The page was taken offline Saturday evening. <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cSecretary Kennedy has instructed the Office of the General Counsel to send a formal demand to Children\u2019s Health Defense requesting the removal of their website,\u201d the Health and Human Services Department said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cAt H.H.S. we are dedicated to restoring our agencies to their tradition of upholding gold-standard, evidence-based science,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">It was not clear why the anti-vaccine group might have published a page mimicking the C.D.C.\u2019s. The organization did not respond to requests for comment, and Mr. Kennedy has said he severed ties with it when he began his presidential campaign in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The fake vaccine safety page was practically indistinguishable from the one available on the C.D.C.\u2019s own site. The layout, typefaces and logos were the same, perhaps in violation of federal copyright law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">While the C.D.C.\u2019s own website refutes a connection between vaccines and autism, the impostor left open the possibility that one exists. At the bottom, it included links to video testimonials from parents who believe their children were harmed by vaccines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Publication of the page was first <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/infoepi.substack.com\/p\/cdc-clone-site-rife-with-false-vaccine?r=9fjqu&amp;utm_medium=ios&amp;triedRedirect=true\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">reported on Substack by E. Rosalie Li<\/a>, founder of the Information Epidemiology Lab. The nonprofit did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Mr. Kennedy has for years maintained that there is a link between vaccines and autism. He held to that stance during his Senate confirmation hearings, despite extensive research debunking the theory.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-2\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Under his direction, the C.D.C. <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/03\/07\/health\/vaccines-autism-cdc-rfk-jr.html\" title=\"\">recently announced<\/a> plans to re-examine the evidence \u2014 a move that Senator Bill Cassidy, Republican of Louisiana and chairman of the Senate health committee, said was a waste of money.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The mock web page online featured the C.D.C.\u2019s familiar blue banner across the top, and the agency\u2019s blue-and-white logo along with the words \u201cVaccine Safety.\u201d The headline read \u201cVaccines and Autism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The text laid out research both supporting and debunking a link between vaccines and autism, but left open the possibility \u2014 long ago refuted by scientists \u2014 that the shots were harmful.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">It included a citation to a study by Brian S. Hooker, who is the chief scientific officer of Children\u2019s Health Defense, and to other studies critical of vaccination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIt\u2019s a mixture of things that are legitimately peer-reviewed and things that are bogus,\u201d said Dr. Bruce Gellin, who directed H.H.S.\u2019s vaccine program in the Bush and Obama administrations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-3\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cThe footnotes give you the impression that it\u2019s legitimate scientific work,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">A series of testimonials at the bottom of the page featured videos with titles like \u201cMother of 3: I Will Never Vaccinate Again\u201d and \u201cWe Signed His Life Away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">This stands in stark contrast to the C.D.C.\u2019s official <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccine-safety\/about\/autism.html\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">website on autism and vaccines<\/a>, which is largely devoted to debunking the idea of a connection and clearly states that \u201cstudies have shown that there is no link.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Recently, Children\u2019s Health Defense has taken a stand on the measles outbreak in West Texas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The organization\u2019s CHD.TV channel posted an on-camera interview with the parents of a 6-year-old girl who was declared dead from measles by the state health department, the first reported measles death in the United States in a decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The child was unvaccinated and had no underlying medical conditions, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dshs.texas.gov\/news-alerts\/measles-outbreak-2025#:~:text=The%20Texas%20Department%20of%20State,lived%20in%20the%20outbreak%20area.\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">according to the health agency<\/a>. But Children\u2019s Health Defense claimed it had obtained hospital records that contradicted the cause of death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The organization also interviewed Dr. Ben Edwards, who treated the girl\u2019s siblings and who is one of two Texas doctors \u2014 both alternative medicine practitioners \u2014 to whom Mr. Kennedy spoke about the outbreak.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In response to the video, Covenant Children\u2019s Hospital in Lubbock, Texas, released a statement this week saying that a \u201crecent video circulating online contains misleading and inaccurate claims,\u201d and noting that confidentiality laws prevent the hospital from providing information specifically related to the case.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/03\/22\/health\/cdc-kennedy-vaccine-disinformation.html\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Robert F.
