Image:\u00a0Jeremy Tremp<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cantius refers to the middle name of <a class=\"ajax-article\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thearmorylife.com\/garand-the-man-behind-the-legend\/\">John C. Garand, creator of the iconic M1 Garand rifle<\/a>. The M1 Garand <a class=\"ajax-article\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thearmorylife.com\/battle-history-of-the-m1-garand-in-wwii\/\">proved itself in battle throughout World War II<\/a>, the Korean War and the <a class=\"ajax-article\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thearmorylife.com\/the-m1-garand-and-the-cold-war\/\">Cold War<\/a>. Image:\u00a0NARA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While the M1 Garand-based M14\u2019s official role as the primary service rifle of the U.S. Military would be short, it inspired the birth of the semi-auto M1A rifle manufactured by Geneseo, Illinois\u2019 Springfield Armory (to learn more about that story, click <a class=\"ajax-article\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thearmorylife.com\/the-armory-life-interviews-springfield-armorys-dennis-reese\/\">here<\/a>). He has authored more than 30 books on military history and weapons systems, and he regularly contributes articles to national magazines and websites on military history and firearms topics.
