B<\/span>est known for its innovative bullet designs and high-quality ammunition, Hornady is also disrupting the safe industry\u2019s status quo with the SnapSafe brand that it acquired in 2015. While big steel boxes admittedly may not sound terribly compelling at first, SnapSafe is delivering some fascinating designs that are gaining a great deal of attention.<\/p>\n

The SnapSafe line is made up four primary categories: its modular safes, vault doors, specialty safes (for home office or vehicle), lock boxes and an extensive line of accessories. While all of these offerings have their merits, it\u2019s the interesting modular safes we will be considering in this article.<\/p>\n

Made up of three primary models \u2014 the Titan, Super Titan and the Super Titan Double Door \u2014 this line of safes offers a unique level of modularity and design that could completely change how you store your firearms.<\/p>\n

Security Needs<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As responsible gun owners, we must ensure our firearms are secure in the home environment. Secure storage can take many forms, but for many of us, a safe is the best option. Smaller lock-box-style safes are fine if our collection consists of a handgun or two, but that option is off the table if long guns or multiple handguns are part of the picture.<\/p>\n

A full-size, stand-up safe does afford any number of advantages. First and foremost, it keeps your firearms out of the hands of unauthorized persons. Also, firearms are a prime target in residential burglaries, and a good safe will certainly frustrate the efforts of an individual who would otherwise take your valuable property.<\/p>\n

In addition to your firearms, other valuables such as jewelry can be stored there, and most of the higher quality safes will afford some protection from fire.<\/p>\n

Weighty Concerns<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One of the obstacles relative to a safe in the house has long been their size and weight. Quality safes are large and heavy, and getting them delivered and moved to their final destination in your home is never a simple process. Negotiating narrow hallways, doorways and stairs with something that stands five feet or taller and weighs about as much as an old VW Beetle is not a task that can be taken lightly. But thanks to the innovative thinkers at SnapSafe, there\u2019s an alternative.<\/p>\n

Unlike traditional safes that are welded together, SnapSafe offers designs that are modular in nature. Basically, you receive the safe broken down into parts that can be moved to the desired location for your safe much more easily, and then assembled in that spot.<\/p>\n

Compare this to the freight delivery of a traditional safe. With these products, the driver typically drops it at the curb and you have to figure it out from there. For a safe that might weigh 600, 800 or even 1,000 lbs., you can see how this could be problematic for many people.<\/p>\n

SnapSafe modular safes are tough and durable. Their modular design doesn\u2019t mean they are fragile, as a safe door alone might weigh nearly 100 lbs. But compare that to the bulk of an entire welded safe. A married couple could maneuver a part weighing under 100 lbs. through a house with relative ease. Compared to a traditional safe, the individual components of a SnapSafe are quite manageable and easy to move.<\/p>\n

Some Assembly Required<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I confess to being all thumbs when it comes to assembling the new propane grill or the kid\u2019s bicycle. Consequently, one of my concerns about any large product is how it might all come together.<\/p>\n

As it turns out, assembling a SnapSafe is easier than many might imagine. Assembly requires just a single tool, a single socket wrench, which is provided with the safe along with all the parts and pieces you need to assemble it. In fact, it comes in a handy sealed plastic case. To guide your assembly process, SnapSafe has a detailed instruction video on its website to make the whole thing trouble-free. Also, the carpeted interiors feature modular\/adaptable shelving designs for you to configure to your needs.<\/p>\n

With the SnapSafe modular assembly system, the walls lock together from the inside. In theory, this provides a safe that is every bit as secure as a traditional welded unit. Should you have to move it to another location in your home \u2014 or, for that matter, move to another home \u2014 it comes apart just as easily.<\/p>\n

Other Features<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Even though the modular SnapSafe is bolted together rather than welded, it indeed appears to be every bit as strong compared to a traditional welded cabinet. Featuring a lifetime warranty, the safes have a powder-coated exterior. The solid steel door is 3\/16\u201d thick steel and is described as being both sledgehammer- and pry bar-resistant. In addition, 9-gauge two-ply steel exterior walls add further strength.<\/p>\n

The Titan model is the smallest in the line and is priced at an MSRP of $1,969 (as a note, the MSRP of all the Modular Safes include shipping charges). It measures 59\u2033 in height, 22\u2033 in width and 17.5\u2033 in depth (add 3\u201d for the handle). Designed with a 12-plus long gun capacity, it weighs 400 lbs. The door contains eight 1\u201d steel live locking bolts, and a SecuRAM UL-listed digital lock with EMP-proof mechanical key back-up rounds out the package.<\/p>\n

Next up is the Super Titan, with an MSRP of $2,509. Featuring a single door, it bumps up the size from the Titan to 59\u2033 in height, 38\u2033 in width and 17.5\u2033 deep (again, add 3\u201d for the handle). This safe features a 24-plus long gun capacity and weighs in at 550 lbs. Like the Titan, it features eight 1\u201d steel live locking bolts and a SecuRam digital lock.<\/p>\n

Last up is the Super Titan Double Door model, offered in both XL and XXL variants. As noted by the name, this large safe features double doors that sport 14 1\u2033 steel live locking bolts and a SecuRam digital lock. The XL model has an MSRP of $3,269 and features\u00a0a 59\u2033 height, 38\u2033 width and 24\u2033 depth (as always, add 3\u2033 for the handle). The weight of this model is 660 lbs., and it can hold 36-plus long guns.<\/p>\n

The XXL model of the Super Titan Double Door takes it one step further in size and capacity as the largest model offered. Priced at an MSRP of $3,819, it is 59\u2033 in height, 46\u2033 in width and 30\u2033 in depth (with an added 3\u2033 for the handle). The weight of the safe is 900 lbs. and is rated to hold 56-plus long guns.<\/p>\n

SnapSafe\u2019s SecuRAM digital lock is a UL-listed electronic lock that operates on a single 9-volt battery. The SecuRAM contains non-volatile memory, meaning it will remember your combination, even if you remove the battery. A secondary mechanical key lock allows you entry to the contents in the event of a primary lock failure or even an EMP attack.<\/p>\n

Heat-activated fire seals in the door expand when fire is present. Fire blankets sandwiched between the exterior walls and inner panels will help protect the contents of the safe from a 2300\u02da F fire for up to one hour. This is an important feature to keep in mind when safe shopping as some companies might use high temperature ratings, but it can be for a very short period of time.<\/p>\n
